Local Victories Add Up Again

Deputy Chair

Although a few races are very close and official results have yet to be certified by the Board of Elections, it appears that local Democratic candidates won 86 of the 141 races we entered in 2007.

86 Democratic school board, boro council, township supervisor, and auditor candidates won across the county against just 55 losses. And while we held our base in Democratic majority municipalities, once again, upsets were achieved in communities where registration favors another party.

The success of our candidates adds to the progress that was made two years ago at the municipal level and resulted this year in Democrats taking majorities on a number of local boards and breaking monopolies on others.

We congratulate our many winners and wish them well as they accept the responsibilities of leadership that come with victory. To those who were unsuccessful in this election cycle, we say thank you for carrying our banner and our values into the political arena. Please stay involved, run again, or help others to run with the knowledge you have gained.

With Thanksgiving upon us, we have much to be grateful for - especially the dedicated individuals who have stepped forward to represent our interests in the difficult role of public servant.
