BUCKINGHAM, PA—Buckingham Township has received a $2.4 million grant to clean forever chemicals out of its well water.

The township will use the grant from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to scrub forever chemicals like per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from the Furlong Water System.

The system serves residents in the central part of Buckingham. It uses eight wells, two of which are inactive, with four storage tanks.

The system will use a two-vessel granular activated carbon (GAC) absorption system to remove enough of the chemicals to make the water meet new federal standards. The township said the system has been designed for a flow rate of 200 gallons per minute, which will match the operating capacity of the existing well pump.

This is the second grant PENNVEST has given Buckingham to remove forever chemicals from its wells. In July 2025, the township received a $2,057,063 grant with a $615,089.00 low interest loan for its Hearthstone Facility, which is located in the Cold Spring Water System.

The latest grant was announced by State Sen. Steve Santarsiero and State Rep. Tim Brennan.

“Clean, safe drinking water is fundamental to the health of our communities,” Santarsiero said in a statement. “This funding will help Buckingham Township install modern filtration systems that reduce PFAS to below new federal standards and protect residents’ water supply for years to come.”
